Our Love Affair with Golf!

Clear Creek Golf Club Review

As RVers who golf, there are two things we know for sure:

  1. RV life is great.
  2. A Harvest Hosts Golf membership makes it even better.

For those that may not be familiar with Harvest Hosts – Harvest Hosts is a membership program that provides access to a network of wineries, farms, breweries, museums and (wait for it…..) Golf Courses that invite self-contained RVers to visit and stay overnight.

Becoming members of Harvest Hosts has given us access to golf courses throughout North America without spending extra money on accommodations.

We know golfers who spend their whole life playing three or four local courses. And we know Golfers that have the luxury of traveling throughout their state while taking the occasional golf trip with their buddies.  That’s all fine and good, but as RVers we can take our love of golf to another level. We pull Big Dee into the parking lot of a golf club, set ‘er up, enjoy a round of golf and dinner at the clubhouse before spending the evening at the course in Dee.

It’s glamping for golfers!

We are finding that a fairway in California is much different than a fairway in Florida, and Harvest Hosts is helping us achieve our bucket-list of golfing in all 50 states by experiencing both types of fairways and everything in between!

We recently took advantage of our membership and stayed at Clear Creek Golf Club in Vicksburg, MS.

We are on our way to get some things done on Big Dee in Kansas and was looking for a stop along our route. Our Harvest Hosts app showed us this great little golf facility along our route. So naturally we reached out to the course and verified they would have room for us.

Luckily for us – they did!!

This 18-hole course features 6,601 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71.8 and it has a slope rating of 118 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Watermark Golf LLC/Nathan Crace, the Clear Creek golf course opened in 1977.

We were excited that we were able to fuel our golf addiction with Harvest Hosts.

After getting our rig all situated in the parking lot, we checked into the club house and was greeted by Candy, who was extremely pleasant and helpful.

She gave us a very thorough briefing of the course and the current conditions. She told us that due to recent rains in the area, our round would be cart path only.

Candy gave us a course yardage book that contained key information on the hazards, playing tips, and basic yardage information to get a feel for the course. As we approached each hole, we referred to the book to review the playing tip for helpful hints. It highlighted landmarks like trees, bunkers, or curves in the fairway to align our shots with and reference the yardage measurements as a tool to help us decide which clubs would be best to use, since this was our first time playing the course.

Candy also mentioned that for a county course it is more challenging than most and to be prepared for the beauty of hole 15.

She was not wrong!

The front 9 of Clear Creek Golf Club is surrounded by sprawling open spaces. The back 9 wraps around wooded fields. Although there was a lot of standing water on the course, we were still able to get in some good shots and enjoy everything the track had to offer.

If you are in the Vicksburg, MS area and want to play some golf, I recommend you play Clear Creek. Based on our score card rating – I would rate this a Par Course.
