18 Holes and Counting!

Our Love Affair with Golf!

Clewiston Golf Course Review

Trying to get comfortable!

Some of you may know that I have been unable to play golf for the past 3 months because of a foot surgery.

I am at the beginning of recovery and I think it is ok to try my first 18 holes of golf.

One of the wonderful benefits of our RV lifestyle is we can visit friends all over the U.S. Which brings us to Kathy and I wanting to see our friend KC.

Getting ready to tee-off with Kathy and KC

Lucky for us KC loves golf.

Even luckier – KC lives in Naples, Fl.

There are about 90 great golf courses in Naples.

I called around hoping to get on one of these gems. Mind you, this is the winter and the Canadians are here staying warm. I tried to get a tee time. Every course I called was either a private course or $275 – Plus cart.

I was shattered.

I decided to look outside of Naples….perhaps somewhere closer to our current RV park than to KC in Naples. There it was.

A beautiful municipal golf course – Clewiston Golf Course. I did a little research on the course and found out it is on the Florida Historic Golf Trail.

These are courses in Florida that are 75 years old or older.

I called to get our tee time. I was excited to find out that there was a Monday special – $35.00 for 18 holes….and….wait for it….that INCLUDED the cart. WooHoo.

Yes, there were Gators!

This course is special. It has a great layout. There is water on every hole. But it was not in the way. If you hit a bad shot, you would lose the ball. But I didn’t feel like the water was used to inflict a higher score on you.

The sand traps were well kept and easy to get out of with a standard open face approach. I didn’t mind being in them. ( And I was there a few times!)

My favorite things were the trees. There is something about the trees on this course that just made the day better. They were full grown, old trees – Oaks, Palms and Pines. All lining each hole. Blowing in a steady breeze. Something that you only get on an old courses. They all felt as if they were in the perfect place.

My only hope was to get some good swings in and see how my foot held up to a round of golf.

It was a perfect way to spend the day with Kathy and KC. I skipped a hole when my foot hurt a bit, hit a few balls a couple of times, trying to find my swing….and visit with KC.

Who by-the-way, can pop out a low 82 without even paying attention.

My Buddy KC!

It was a perfect day. You can’t plan a better one. And, Clewiston Golf Course was the perfect place for it all to happen.

Clewiston Golf Course scored a birdie on our course review score card. If you are ever within 60 miles of this golf course, play it. You will love it. You won’t be disappointed.
