Our Love Affair with Golf!

Crosswinds Golf Club Review

Welcome to the Peach State, Golfers! We are in Georgia….and if you have been following along with us on our journey, then you know what that means. We have scratched another state off our bucket list to golf in all 50 states.

That’s right – state number 38 is now on the map!

We are staying a few days in the Savannah area and decided our first round in 2026 would be at Crosswinds Golf Club.

Crosswinds Golf Club is located near the Savannah airport, offering fantastic value and a unique golfing experience that easily holds its own against more expensive resort courses. Our round at this public track was filled with great shots, a few challenges, and the memorable experience of watching commercial airliners descend right overhead.

At check-in we were greated by Aiden, who shared a tip or two on how to have an enjoyable round. Realizing that we had never played Crosswinds Golf Club, he made sure we knew where the first tee box was located and what holes would be more challenging along the course.

A gentle reminder to watch out for snakes and aligators!

My initial thoughts while playing the course was it seemed to be very forgiving. The parkland style, with wide, well-maintained fairways, allowed Marc to be a bit more aggressive with his driver, while I continued to play my normal “Old-Lady” golf – straight up the middle.

And of course, the added bonus that the parkland layout would mean I didn’t have to worry about hitting any homes.

However, as our play continued, I began to take more notice of the layout of Crosswinds Golf Club. It is an interesting mix of five par 3s and five par 5s, which seemed to provide a welcome variety and strategic risk-reward opportunities.

Playing this time of year, we weren’t too sure what condition we would find the course in, but we found the fairways in good shape, although dormant. The greens were generally in solid condition, rolling true and fast, which made for a great putting experience.

As usual for my game, my golf ball seemed to find several of the water hazards that are strategically placed and come into play on several holes, adding a layer of challenge and scenic beauty. One of the most memorable water holes is the par-5 12th, which has a lake lining the entire right side. There are several calculated placed bunkers to watch out for as well.

The practice facilities deserve a special shoutout, including a chipping green, putting green, and a driving range equipped with cool TrackMan technology.

Nice covered driving range available.
The carts have GPS

The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit, from the pro shop to the beverage cart service. A very nice touch is the availability of coolers with bottled water at various points on the course.

The most unique aspect, of course, is the proximity to the airport. Seeing large planes fly closely overhead on their final approach is a novel and interesting experience, a talking point that never seemed to get old during our round.

Based on our scorecard, Crosswinds Golf Club is a Par golf course.

Crosswinds Golf Club is an outstanding value for the money. The overall condition, friendly staff, and enjoyable layout make it a must-play when in the Savannah area. It’s a great “bang for your buck” course that I highly recommend for any golfer, from beginner to avid player.
