Fairmont Hot Springs Mountainside Golf Course Review

We spent this past 4th of July in Canada, traveling back to the lower 48 from our road trip to Alaska. We stopped at Fairmont Hot Springs in British Columbia for five days, hoping to have some down time to relax in the hot springs and take a few deep breaths after traveling the ALCAN for the past three months.

We learned early on in our RV travels, not every RV park is the same.

Sometimes they are good

and

sometimes they are not so good.

When we pulled into Fairmont Hot Springs RV Park we knew we had hit the trifecta –

  • Nice RV park with full hook ups
  • Natural Hot Springs Spa
  • And three (count ’em three) golf courses to choose from

Needless to say we were stoked!

As I said, Fairmont Hot Springs has three golf courses – Mountainside Golf Course, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort Course, and Creekside Golf Course. We decided to play a round on the Mountainside Golf course due to it’s location to the RV park.

We were not disappointed in our choice.

Surrounded by raw wilderness and stunning mountain ranges, the Fairmont Hot Springs Mountain Side course provided us a level of beauty that was truly an ideal golf experience. The course’s proximity to nature is unrivaled.

To begin our round, we met up with the course Starter – Allen. Allen was very friendly and told us what to expect on the course. Since the track is situated in the mountainside, he reminded us that most putts break away from the mountains and roll toward the valley and Columbia Lake.

Allen giving Marc some tips regarding the course

The views were amazing

This course enticed me with its magnificent vistas. There were three sets of tees per hole, which did offer an even playing field for us.

During the back nine I was continuously humming the theme song to Caddyshack – due to the cute little gophers running around the course. There had to be hundreds of them. (I know, I know – they are bad for the course…but dang they were cute!)

We rented a buggy, but felt it is a very walkable course.

Being reminded about the wild animals on the course

As we were finishing the front nine, one of the groundskeepers stopped to let us know that we needed to be cautious of the wild animals that wonder the course – i.e. bears, badgers and moose.

I found the course challenging, but a good challenge (if that is a thing?) Some of the greens I couldn’t see from my approach. Even though it is a mountainside course, many of the fairways are lined with homes, but it didn’t seem to take away from the feeling of being on top of the valley.

Throughout the round I felt the tranquility in the surrounding mountains and the Columbia River Valley. While I don’t expect to be back in the area any time soon, if I do find myself traveling through, I would play the course again.
