Sterling Golf Club Review

Par 3 Course. Date Played: October 24, 2019

Beautiful lake – 17th Tee

This is not the first par 3 course I have played. It is the first one I have reviewed. I don’t often play par 3s because they don’t offer much in variety. Routinely the holes are 60 to 110 yards and nothing between you and the hole. They are more like a chip and putt course than a par 3 course. That is where Sterling Golf Club is different, making it special. It is a golf course that just happens to have all par 3s. The yardage for each hole is more like a second shot from a regular golf course than a chip to the green. The hole distances are 97 to 192 yards. There are trees, sand and water, and none of it is in play if you land the green.

Kathy and Marc – 7th Tee

Sterling Golf Club was established in 1964. Making it an old, mature course. It is set in a beautiful wooded area with lakes, streams, babbling brooks and trees. Old trees. I happen to love old trees. I think they are beautiful and give the course the full design that was intended when it was first drawn up.

This is a walking course with a few undulations. They do allow carts if you need them, though not for regular use.

Whispering Forest

In 1965 one of the members, who was a local teacher, brought his students out to plant trees along the first hole. Those trees have all grown, lining the first hole and make a majestic start to the round.

When you visit the web site (https://playsterlinggolf.com) you are presented with an overview of the course and can see that it will be a joy to play. The site makes it easy to reserve your tee time, see what events are coming up and get a good feel for what the course is about.

This is a members club that is open to the community. Scott Davis and his team greeted us with a warm handshake, a smile and a hearty hello. Sandra Davis, Scott’s lovely wife, showed us around the facility, making sure we knew where everything was. It is obvious to see that Scott and his team want you to play at Sterling Golf Club.

Jon, Kathy and Marc

I would easily give this course a par and if I was a regular player here, I could see myself giving it a birdie. If you are short on time and want to get in a round of golf or looking to practice your short game without going to the range, go to Sterling Golf Club. It offers a full golf course feel in every way possible. Except you don’t have to hit your driver, making your second shot always a good lie.

HOLE PAR SCORE COMMENTS
1 – Tee Time Availability 3 3 Making a tee time is easy. Do it online or by phone. Available tee times when I wanted to play.
2 – Cost of Green Fees 3 2 $20.00 – Can’t beat the cost. Monthly or yearly membership fees to play all you want.
3 – Starter/Marshal 3 3 The starter checked you in and started you from the desk.
4 – Condition of Tee Boxes 3 3 The tee boxes were changed for the season to winter boxes. That gives the tee boxes time to heal. Temp boxes in good shape.
5 – Condition of Fairways 3 3 This is a par 3 course. There are no “fairways”. You should be on or around the green.
6 – Condition of Greens 3 3 The greens were in very good shape. There were some divots from people not repairing. The grass was great.
7 – Length of Course 3 2 Not your average par 3. Holes were made to be like your second shot. Varying the distances.
8 – Hazards 3 4 The bunkers were not in great shape. Hard sand.
9 – High Handicap Friendly 3 3 Sixteen tee boxes were the same for everyone. Two tee boxes were a bit closer for the red.  Bathrooms at the turn.
