Our Love Affair with Golf!

“Golfing with Family!”

We just finished visiting with family over the holidays – from a very cold Minnesota to the “somewhat” warmer temps of North and South Carolina we enjoyed it all! This full-time RV life has truly opened up so many opportunities to see our family and this past holiday season was full of time with those we love!

Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate and we were only able to get in one round of golf during the festive season.

However, that one round was a wonderful time with family.

Kathy and her “big sister”!

There are two people that I give most of the credit to for me starting golf. One of them is Kathy’s sister Debby.

Debby started playing golf years before us and told us it would be a good activity to do together. She gave both Kathy and me tips on getting started. And how to enjoy the game before we were good or understood how to play.

Debby is what I call a “golf honor” player. She knows all the rules and plays by them when she plays. She will gently guide you as you are playing to make sure you understand the rules as well. She understands that there is a difference between playing for fun and playing in a tournament.

Debby is one of the very few people that I look up to in the golfing community. She is a good player that plays a few times a week and is always up for around. Another thing to note about Debby is she has always belonged to a golf club and plays very nice courses. Another reason to get excited to visit and play golf with Debby.

When Kathy and I visit Debby and are able to get in a round, it gives me a chance to measure my game. To see if I am actually able to put a round of golf together when it is important to me. But, somehow, no matter how good I have been striking the ball or how good I feel, I never seem to put a good round together when I am playing against her.

Debby is one of the few people that I have never beaten.

The thing is, we are about the same skill level. We don’t use a handicap when we play. I don’t think she has an advantage over me. As a matter of fact, I feel I should have an advantage over her.  I consider myself a good player. A low 80’s round is where I should be on most courses.  But no matter the course, no matter the weather, no matter the game we play, Debby has my number.

And believe it or not, I am happy she does. It keeps her up there on her pedestal and gives me something to look forward to when we go for a visit. I know one day a victory will come my way and I will jump for joy. But that would only be one win to many losses.

Debby, Thank you for being the steal that sharpens my golfing edge.
