18 Holes and Counting!

Our Love Affair with Golf!

“We Did It!”

When my playing partner and I first started playing golf, we never gave any thought to how many courses we would play, or set any goals regarding the sport per say.

We just knew we wanted to learn to play….and slowly but surely we are learning this game.

I began playing golf in 1998 while posted in Spain.  And you know what is the crazy thing about this sport?  I am still trying to become a better golfer!  I guess that’s one of the biggest challenges of golf – improving your game.  After all, many say it is one of the most frustratingly difficult sports in the world to play!  There are times after a round that I would have to agree!

As I was growing my fondness of the game, I started to think about how I could commemorate and honor each course I have played.  Many people collect something cool to keep track of where they have played, like logo golf balls, towels, hat clips or pencils, or keeping their scorecards.  Some players have a map on the wall where they drop pins on the locations of the courses they have played.

But since we are traveling in a RV, our wall space is very limited.

Early on we started collecting ball markers from the courses we have played.  They are small and reasonably “cheap”, but they aren’t anything we display or share.

As we thought about it more and more, we knew we wanted something that we could share with others.

So….about 3 or 4 years ago we started blogging about the courses we play.  Since golf has 18 holes, we thought we would “count” the holes we have played. From that thought we launched 18 Holes and Counting, and 18 Holes and Counting has become our way of sharing our Love Affair of golf with our family and friends.

Recently we hit a major milestone of our “playing career”we played our 200th course!  We weren’t really tracking it; it just kind of sneaked up on us.

You see, golf has become a part of who we are as a couple.

It has traveled the world with us.  We have met pro players and caddies, played in pro-ams and have made life-long friends, all while enjoying every aspect this game as afforded us.

As we plan our next rounds of golf – we will continue to rate and review them.  It is our hope you will join us, become part of our gallery and follow our golfing adventures.
