Sky Mountain Golf Course Review

Wow, that’s really all I can say, and I think it is the best way to start this review!

Today, Kathy and I are in Utah, and we played at the Sky Mountain Golf Course.

We are here visiting Zion National Park, and we need our golf sticker for Utah.

Utah is #39 on our Golf Bucket List to golf in every state!
At Zion National Park Entrance with our traveling companions!

So, I started looking for courses to play, and realized there aren’t that many in the area. Not to mention the other two I found wanted at least twice as much as Sky Mountain Golf Course, so it was a no-brainer. I just hoped we wouldn’t be playing a not-so-good course – and fortunately we did not!

We caught our first peek of the course from the road about 3 minutes out as we were driving in. I don’t know what hole it was, but the dark green grass stood out against the rust colored mountains and brown desert sand. I got excited.

We pulled into the parking lot and got a space right up front for our noon tee time. Just a few short steps and we were in a small but well-equipped clubhouse. Christian checked us in and told us it was best to just keep the ball in the fairway. Simple advice that is sometimes hard to do. He directed us to  Craig for our cart. Craig chatted with us briefly and got us on our way.

After we loaded up our cart, we went to the driving range to hit a few balls and then a few putts on the practice green. I really mean a few. I took eight old balls out of my bag and split them with Kathy. Then we only had time for the same number of putts. Not really warming up. But, something worked, we both had a good round, and I had one of my best.

Driving Range warm-up.

You know what? I think I am going to do a 4-ball warm-up all the time.

The very first thing we noticed was that the course lived up to its name. Sky Mountain – that was the view all day. Spectacular mountains all around us, and a beautiful sky backdrop. It was just amazing!

The second thing that stood out was the peace and quiet. This had to be one of the quietest golf courses we have ever played. It was so quiet that it was noticeable. We loved it.

Sky Mountain Golf Course was in great shape. It is a canyon course in the desert. The contrasts stood out. Particularly the colors, from a very green course to the rust colored mountains, from the brown desert sand to the beautiful dots of red along the edges of the course on the blooming cactus, every inch of Sky Mountain Golf Course was well cared for, and it showed.

There were very few trees in sight on the entire course. I am used to seeing fairways lined with them. But that didn’t mean the edges were danger-free. As a matter of fact, they may have been more dangerous. If the ball went past the second cut, there were lava rocks, cactus, shrubs, and other things that would make it nearly impossible to have a recovery shot. Luckily, Kathy and I heeded Christian’s advice and kept the ball in the fairway, or at least near the fairway.

The bunkers were clean and well maintained.
Many of the greens were raised.

Almost every score we could assign Sky Mountain Golf Course leads to a birdie. And once we completed our scorecard, it was no surprise that Sky Mountain Golf Course earned a Birdie.

There are a few other courses in the area, and I am glad we chose Sky Mountain Golf Course. If you find yourself in Zion National Park, the Hurricane City area, and want to take in some sights as well as play golf, you can do both at Sky Mountain Golf Course.

You won’t be disappointed, as a matter of fact, I think you will pat yourself on the back for making such a great choice.

I certainly did!
