Our Love Affair with Golf!

Scenic Hills Country Club Review

Kathy and I are stuck here in Pensacola for a few unplanned months. What we really wanted to be, was on the road playing golf in a few different States. So during this unplanned stall we decided that we have to make sure and play different courses in the area.

Today we chose Scenic Hills Country Club.

Wow, I am glad we did.
Spoiler alert….this is a birdie course and we loved it!

From the very first step into the club we were happy. The staff started us off with warm greetings and quickly helped us get out on the course. We arrived a little early and our starter Tom, gladly let us get ready and started us early. He was very friendly and his course briefing was spot on.

Scenic Hills Country Club is set in a housing development. As I have said many times before, I don’t really like courses that are surrounded by houses. But for Scenic Hills, the layout kept the houses out of the way and in some cases hidden by beautiful large trees. I didn’t seem to mind the development at all.

The condition of the course was very good. Especially considering the hard winter storms and heavy rains we have had here. Since Hurricane Sally last fall, most of the courses in the area are beat up pretty bad. However, Scenic Hills Country Club has worked hard to get their course in tip top condition.

Most of the tee boxes were in good shape, and they had plenty of different tee boxes to care for. The fairways were in great shape. Almost no wash out from the very heavy rains. I was impressed! The greens were near perfect – definitely nothing to complain about. The ball rolled very nicely. Reading the greens was straight forward and the ball rolled as predicted. The only thing that still needed some attention were the sand traps. The rain left them wet and hard – but many of them were attended to and allowed for an easy out.

Scenic Hills Country Club is a beautiful course that is not an easy score. They do have generous fairways and shapes that are pleasing to the eye. You have to be careful of the distances for the doglegs and bunkers. They do give a few great opportunities to grip it and rip it – and you have to play smart to get a good score.

Maybe part of the reason I loved this course so much was my score.
Today I broke 80 and shot a 78!
I haven’t done that in about 6 years.
So….I am very happy with golf today!

Putting my score aside, I do like this course and will play it again. If you are in the Pensacola area, Scenic Hills Country Club is easy to get to and worth your time to play.  As I said earlier, this is a great course. I give this course a birdie and is a must play. Scenic Hills Country Club is one of the better courses I have played so far this year.
