Our Love Affair with Golf!

Heron Creek Golf Club Review

Today we got in some long awaited golf at Heron Creek Golf Club, in LaGrange, ID. It has been a long layoff. In July we rode RAGBRAI and then we came to Indiana to pick up our new RV, Dee 2.0.

Finishing up 450+ miles across Iowa!

Then we had an RV ralley, and a shake down with repairs of Dee 2.0. Needless to say that means we haven’t played golf for almost two full months.

I was itching to play!

Of course I was not expecting to play well. I just wanted to get to a nice course and hit the ball.

And that is exactly what we did. Kathy and I found Heron Creek Golf Club on the internet and it was only 5 miles from where we are staying. Learning how close we were to the course made it even more important to get out there and play as soon as we could. That way we may be able to get in a second round of golf before we leave the area.

RED Friday (Remember Everyone Deployed)

Heron Creek did not disappoint. It was a great local course that has all the elements for a challenging round of golf. As soon as we drove up I thought this is a beautiful course. We walked into the clubhouse and we were greated by a very friendly starter.

A quick look around and we could see that Heron Creek wants its guest to get on the course and have a good time. I didn’t spend much time in the clubhouse because I wanted to get on the course.

As we started to play we could see that this course was a mature, well maintained course. The trees were large and beautiful. The weeping willows were so large they made me wonder how old they were. They looked like they could have been Ents from the Lord of the Rings. I loved every step on the course.

Both Kathy and I played a good round of golf. I guess when you don’t think about how good you are going to be or don’t expect to play well, you don’t worry and just play, which ends up being a great game! I find some of my best rounds are when I am not singularly thinking about golf. I play better when I let my body do what it knows how to do and enjoy what is around me.

Conversely, when I play a good round of golf I think about it until the next round. Then the pressure is on. I want to play a great round! Of course it NEVER ends up that way! That is when I play some of my worst golf.

Back to Heron Creek Golf Club. The entire course was in great shape and some areas were exceptional. Heron Creek Golf Club had everything – trees, traps, water and holes – that made you consider your shot. Put that all together with the low cost of $58 for two players, that even included the cart, and you have an awesome must play course.

This was a small town course that had a big town feel!

If you are in the Shipshewana area, play this course. You will not be disapointed. This course is a strong par. You will love it!

Teeing up for another great round!
