Our Love Affair with Golf!

Heritage Hill Golf Club Review

Louisville Slugger Museum

We are stopped in Kentucky just outside of Louisville. We are on our way east, but we are taking a few days to see the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory and squeeze in a round of golf. We want to be able to check off another state, knowing that we are not going to hit many different states for a few months this year.

Golf Bucket List – #35!
State #35!

As luck would have it, when I looked up courses near me, Heritage Hill Golf Club popped up just five miles down the road. Heritage Hill Golf Course was rated a top 10 new course in America in 2008 by Golf Digest. I was instantly excited. We haven’t played golf for a few weeks, and I wanted to play a nice course.

I will say right up front – Heritage Hill Golf Course fit the bill!

Everything about Heritage Hill Golf Course was nice. They hit the sweet spot for course quality and price of play – $80.00 with a cart. Kathy and I liked everything about Heritage Hill Golf Course. It started out with a nice check-in. We got a quick course brief and were announced to the tee box.

I always love when courses announce players to the tee box….it feels very professional.

Our playing partner – Ryan!

We were paired with a single player, Ryan. Honestly, it was a little lucky that we got in a round here because there was a tournament starting 10 minutes after our start time. Ryan made a single tee time, leaving space for us. Otherwise, it would have been a late afternoon start, and as hot as it is here, we would have skipped the round.

Ryan has played Heritage Hill Golf Course many times and was willing to “caddie” for me. He enjoyed telling me where the best ball placement would be and making sure I was aware of the hazards that may be lurking on each hole. I ended up shooting a 77 (very good score for me) and no doubt Ryan’s information was a big part in my score.

Ryan teeing it up!

It was easy to see why Golf Digest thought so highly of Heritage Hill Golf Course. The layout was amazing. The course was two circles. None of the holes were next to each other. We were in the middle of a shotgun start tournament and never saw any of the participants. Also, the course felt like it was cut out of the edge of a farm field and forest. Making the course wide open with trees everywhere. On top of the great layout, was the natural landscape, flat fairways, hills, creeks, and elevated tees and greens. Heritage Hill Golf Course had it all, and none of it felt gimmicky.

The grounds keeper knew how to keep the course in tip-top condition. All of the tee boxes were in great shape. From the 5050 yard reds, all the way up to the 7100 yard blacks, every hole and every color tee box was nice….and it didn’t stop there. The fairways were perfect. Not many blemishes anywhere. The grass was lush and closely mowed. It was a seamless transition to the rough. No hole shared the side rough with another hole. The circle design kept all the holes in front of you. None were next to you.

It made us feel like we were the only people on the course.

The greens were also in great shape. There were a few divots. But, as I said, there was a tournament going on. I am sure there were plenty of players not fixing their divots. That is a pet peeve of mine. The ground crew is trying to give us the best course they can, and people leave the divots. I could go on. Like I said, it is a peeve of mine.

The beverage attendant adored Hazel!
By mid-round – it was a hot one!

There was also a cart girl on the course, making sure we were hydrated on a hot day. She made her rounds a few times and was very pleasant to us, and not surprisingly she took a shine to Hazel. Unfortunately, we didn’t make a note of her name, but she really did do a good job!

Heritage Hill Golf Course made a lasting impression on me. I can’t wait to get back here again for another round.

Based on our golf scorecard, we give Heritage Hill Golf Course a Birdie.

The price, quality, playability, views, and layout were worth every penny. If you are in the Louisville area and want to play a round of golf, you have to play Heritage Hill Golf Course. You will not be disappointed.
