Dawson Creek Golf & Country Club Review
July 1, 2026
The golf course is where perfect plans go to die, but it is also where the best stories are born. As Kathy and I continue rolling our RV adventure down the iconic Alaska Highway, we couldn’t resist pulling into the Dawson Creek Golf & Country Club in British Columbia. I play as a steady 10 handicap, usually hitting the ball quite well from tee to green.
Kathy, bringing her joyful perspective from the red tees, was ready for a great northern round.

Our day took a cinematic turn right after we laced up our shoes. After getting our clubs off the rig in the parking lot, we crossed paths with a laser-focused 17-year-old local phenom, Tyse, who was dialing in his mindset for a future on the pro tour.
He was flanked by two other incredibly skilled local sticks, Josh and Charles. In true recreational golfer fashion, we struck up a conversation, shook hands, and decided right there to join forces.

Kathy and I merged with their trio to form a booming, friendly five-some ready to take on the Dawson Creek Golf Club.

Golf is a funny game.
You can step up to the ball feeling great, talk a bunch of trash, only to watch your swing evaporate into thin air. From the very first tee box, my game was out of sync. My takeaways felt forced, my timing was entirely off, and I just couldn’t find a comfortable groove.
For someone who relies on crisp striking, it was a battle against my own mechanics just to scramble for bogeys.
But while I was grinding through a rough stretch, Kathy was putting on an absolute clinic. She went out and played one of the best front nines of her life.
While the young gun was launching towering, aggressive lines, Kathy played textbook target golf from the red tees.
She found every fairway, knocked her approach shots cleanly into position, and rolled the rock with total confidence. Watching her steady brilliance kept our side of the cart smiling, even while I was fighting my swing.

Right in the middle of our front-nine action, our rolling five-some got a blast of true local hospitality. The Dawson Creek Golf Club resident pro, Mason Grunewald, came driving out onto the course specifically to track us down, flash a friendly smile, thank us for playing Dawson Creek, and see how the battle was unfolding. He gave me a quick, invaluable brief on how the greens were running and, in true 18 Holes and Counting fashion, instantly made us feel like lifelong members rather than tourists passing through.

As we turned to the back nine, the mood shifted. While my own swing decided to take the afternoon off, the rest of the five-some turned Dawson Creek into an absolute highlight reel. It seemed like every single hole featured someone in our group tracking a flagstick or rolling in a clutch putt.

Tyson went completely unconscious, stringing together high-flying birdies and an eagle, putting himself in prime position to chase down the legendary course record of 61. Every tee shot sounded like a cannon blast under the northern sky.

Even though I was struggling to find my form, it was impossible to be in a bad mood.
Everyone had an absolutely fantastic afternoon out there. The pure joy of the game completely took over the group. The high-fives were flying, and the banter between the local sticks was top-tier.
Tyse fell just a couple of strokes short of that historic 61; the way he handled the finish proved he already has the mindset of a seasoned professional. There was no club-slamming or brooding over what could have been; instead, he walked off the 18th green with a massive smile, immediately shaking everyone’s hand and celebrating the great afternoon we all shared.
It was a masterclass in sportsmanship that showed his character completely matches his explosive talent, and the encouragement everyone threw Kathy’s way during her historic front-nine run was pure class.

Based on our scorecard, we score Dawson Creek Golf Club a Par. It is a solid par course with unparalleled hospitality, and we left Mile 0 with another unforgettable story for the road. You may too.
If you are in Dawson Creek, Canada, you have to play at the Dawson Creek Golf Club.

COURSE REVIEW SCORECARD
Course: Dawson Creek Golf & Country Club
Type: Public
Date Played: 24 June 2026
| HOLE | PAR | SCORE | COMMENTS |
| 1 – Tee Time Availability | 4 | 4 | We were able to get a tee time right away. |
| 2 – Cost of Green Fees | 4 | 4 | The greens fees were competitive with other courses in the wider Peace Region. |
| 3 – Condition of Tee Boxes | 4 | 4 | Well-maintained, level tee boxes with lush coverage and minimal divot damage. The boxes provided a firm, even stance and a fantastic starting point for our shots across the 18-hole course. |
| 4 – Condition of Fairways | 5 | 5 | The fairways offer good grass coverage and remain quite green, especially for a course in the northern Peace Region. The fairways wind through beautiful, park-like settings and offer stunning views of Bear Mountain, which elevates the overall playing experience. |
| 5 – Condition of Greens | 4 | 4 | The greens are moderately undulating, requiring a delicate touch and good local knowledge of the breaks, particularly on the back nine. |
| 6 – Length of Course | 5 | 5 | The Dawson Creek Golf & Country Club proves that a course does not need monster yardage to test your skills. Measuring 6,316 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, it sits on the shorter side for a modern 18-hole track. However, what it lacks in total distance, it completely makes up for in architectural design and tactical choices. |
| 7 – Hazards | 4 | 4 | It is a deceptive course. It does not lean on massive overall yardage to protect par, but uses its natural water routing and tight tree lines to demand precise course management. The regional landscape heavily punishes misplaced shots. The Fairways are tightly framed by heavy trees and brush. Slicing or hooking into the foliage often turned a minor error into a lost ball or a forced, lateral punch-out. Several greens are elevated and guarded by a mix of thick brush and bunkers, requiring accurate distance control on your approach shots to avoid rolling off into trouble. The course layout features at least three drivable par-4 holes. While enticing, these holes are specifically designed with hazard placement to swallow aggressive, offline tee shots. |
| 8 – Starter/Marshal | 3 | 2 | Our two starters – Alan and Oliver truly set a welcoming tone, providing us with the necessary local rules. Their friendly demeanor made checking in and heading to the first tee a breeze. They offered us helpful tips regarding the greens and overall course layout. |
| 9 – High Handicap Friendly | 3 | 3 | The course proved to be fantastic and forgiving for high handicappers. With a manageable course rating of 70.3 and a slope of 117, the 18-hole links-style layout provides a great balance of scenic play and playability without unnecessarily punishing errant tee shots. |
| OUT | 36 | 35 | |
| 10 – Practice Area | 5 | 4 | A solid, well-maintained setup, featuring a driving range with self-serve ball dispensers, a practice putting green, and a chipping area. |
| 11 – Locker Rooms | 3 | 3 | The locker rooms are impeccably maintained, providing a space to change in and out of your gear before and after your round. |
| 12 – Pro Shop | 4 | 4 | The pro shop is fully stocked with top-tier golf equipment and apparel. |
| 13 – Location | 4 | 3 | Situated directly on the iconic Alaska Highway, it is very easy to find and just minutes away from local amenities. |
| 14 – Rental Equipment | 4 | 4 | Standard club sets are available for rent, and the electric carts are well-maintained, responsive, and easily handled the local terrain. |
| 15 – Food Cart | 4 | 4 | There was no food/beverage cart on the day we played. |
| 16 – Restaurant/Club House | 4 | 4 | The clubhouse features massive windows showcasing incredible views of the manicured golf course greens and the surrounding Peace Country landscape. The menu balances hearty classics with modern twists, as well as a fully licensed bar serving cocktails, cold beers, and spirits. |
| 17 – Parking | 3 | 3 | The main parking lot provides plenty of space. |
| 18 – Customer Service | 5 | 3 | ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! We were thoroughly impressed by how welcoming the atmosphere was from every staff member we met. Their pride in the course was evident, and the great northern hospitality they showed us was key to our wonderful round! |
