18 Holes and Counting!

Our Love Affair with Golf!

“North….to Alaska!”

When my golfing partner and I decided to begin Act 3 of our journey together, we said one of our big goals was to golf in all 50 states.  Since purchasing Dee 2.0 (our Luxe 45ft 5th Wheel Toy Hauler) we have golfed in 16 states – we are on our way.

How are we keeping track you might ask?  Well, we decided to document this with a state sticker on the side of our RV for each time we have golfed a round AND stayed over night in Dee 2.0 in that particular state.

The open road, the freedom of driving, and the chance to explore this great nation’s scenic roads all are reasons why we are on this great adventure to begin with –

And as I stated earlier – to golf in every state!

We are now headed to Alaska to add that sticker to our rig!  (cue Johnny Horton song  “North To Alaska”.)

Yep – you read that right.  Even though the gas prices are over the top, we are heading out!

After meeting up with my sister and her husband, we will be caravanning from Lino Lakes, Minnesota to Alaska in our RVs.  We will be taking time out of the trip to enjoy the beauty of national parks, and of course a few golf courses, both in the US and Canada.

It will be an adventure on a grand scale!

We are so excited!

We love traveling and exploring new places while never having to unpack (OK in an RV, we do unpack a few things but NEVER clothes!)

There really are a lot of advantages to traveling in an RV.

  • RV Travel is cheaper. The charge for an overnight stay at a full-service RV park usually runs between $35 and $50, with higher prices for places that are in really desirable spots or in high demand. Still, an RV park is a great way to stay in a place where hotels cost hundreds.
  • RV Travel is giving us total flexibility.  It offers complete freedom and a welcome respite from being tethered to a schedule.  I am not sure who changes their minds more – my sister or me – whomever it is, by traveling in our RVs, we will be able to change direction on a whim.
  • We are carrying everything we need.  Our golf clubs (of course), a pile of books, my golfing partner’s favorite coffee mug and a few board games. A cabinet packed with snacks.  Our little buddy Brutus.  RV travel is allowing us to bring the comforts of home with us, instead of having to struggle to fit the essentials into an airplane carry-on. (Although I have to admit I am always amazed at people who can get so much into the overhead – am I right?)
  • We are now minimalists.  I will openly admit I have never read Marie Kondo’s guide to decluttering and have never quite succeeded at ditching possessions that don’t spark joy, but RV travel is forcing me to decide what’s truly important and leave the rest behind.  I am starting to see that in the course of our RV travels, the memories I make are far more valuable than the possessions I’ve accumulated.

You may think RVing is camping – but it’s not – trust me!  In fact, my idea of camping is a Holiday Inn with no pool.

So let’s just say we are Glamping our way to Alaska!
